About 15km east of the entrance the constantly rising plateau suddenly ends in a several hundred meter deep break-off. Although it is not the actual edge of the Fish River Canyon, this place is called the »Canyon Rim«. It opens an incredible view on the canyon, the Canyon Plains in front of it and the vicinity. The break-off runs over 25km in a north-south direction through the farm area and meets the Koubis Mountains on its southern end.

It's not only the view that makes this place something special - it reaches from the Klein Karasberge on the one side to the mountain range around the Konkiep River on the other - but also its inaccessibility. The area was not usable for farming and therefore was never touched by sheep, goats or men. In the contrary, to protect the animals from falling down the cliffs a fence was drawn a few meters before the edge. In result the original vegetation in this strip and the slope itself was preserved. Plants can be found here that grow nowhere else on the Vogelstrausskluft.

Only a single pass leads down the Canyon Rim. It's located on a neighbouring farm and wasn't used for decades, so that it is not passable at the moment. To access the Canyon Plains with their side-canyons and the Fish River Canyon itself is therefore only possible by using the southern entry of the farm.
